Site Prep and Base Installation
First, we’ll measure your space to determine exactly how much turf, infill, and base material is needed.
TURF EDGING
We’ll install bender board or metal edging for a clean perimeter and to keep debris out.
WEED BARRIER
Finally, we’ll install a weed barrier to minimize growth beneath the turf, especially if the area has had weed issues in the past.
PREP
We’ll remove 3–4 inches of existing sod and cap or move sprinkler lines to create a clean, workable base.
MESH BARRIER
To help prevent gopher issues, we’ll install a protective wire mesh barrier under the turf.
1ST LAYER OF BASE ROCK
To ensure proper drainage and stability, we’ll install and compact 2½ to 3 inches of base rock for a smooth, even surface.
2ND LAYER OF BASE ROCK
We’ll add a second layer, 1 to 1½ inches of decomposed granite, and compact it again to ensure a solid foundation.
TURF INSTALLATION

Once the base is complete, we’ll roll out the turf and let it sit in the sun briefly so it relaxes and becomes easier to work with.

We’ll carefully cut and fit the turf to your space, making sure all pieces run in the same direction for a consistent, natural look.

After positioning, we’ll secure the turf with 5–6” nails: along the edges every 3–4 inches, and down the middle every 12–24 inches. This keeps the surface secure and prevents shifting.

For any seams, we’ll use professional seaming tape and glue to create strong, invisible joins. We take care to align the grain and spacing so the seams blend in seamlessly.
Note on Putting Greens
If we’re installing a putting green, the process is a little different, as these areas don’t require perimeter or surface nails. We’ll walk you through those details.

Infill and Finishing Touches
We’ll power broom the turf to lift the blades, then apply recommended infill with a drop spreader to support structure, improve drainage, reduce heat, and add cushioning. After spreading, we’ll broom the turf again for a lush, upright look and trim any uneven fibers for a clean, polished finish.
